How do I reverse the door on my EdgeStar CRF150SS or CMF151L-1 Medical Freezer ?

This help article applies to EdgeStar models CRF150SS-1 and CMF151L-1

Door reversal should take less than 10 minutes and requires the use of a Phillips head screwdriver.  You may also use a flathead screwdriver as needed for assistance in removal of decorative plugs and hinge cap.

A downloadable version of these instructions can be found at the end of this article.

Step 1:  Remove Door Handle

To remove the door handle, remove the 4 (four) Phillips head screws that secure the door handle the side of the door.  Once the handle is removed, re-insert each of the 4 (four) screws into the door frame and tighten.  Additional screws should already installed on the opposite side of the door for re-installation of the handle.

Step 2:  Remove Decorative Plugs

On the top of the cabinet, locate the decorative plugs that are covering the holes where the top hinge is currently NOT installed.  There are 2 (two) cabinet decorative plugs and 1 (one) door decorative plug.  Typically, these plugs can be removed with your fingers.  If needed, use a thin flat head screwdriver to pry the plugs out being careful not to scratch the cabinet or door frame. Set aside for later use.

Step 3:  Remove Hinge cover

Pry off the plastic hinge cover cap to access the hinge screws.  As needed, you may use a flat head screwdriver, plastic putty knife or similar flat tool.  Take appropriate precaution to avoid scratching the refrigerator cabinet.  Set aside hinge cap cover.

Step 4:  Remove Top Hinge

Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the 2 (two) screws that secure the hinge to the top of the refrigerator cabinet.  Depending on when your refrigerator was produced, there may be a plastic or fiberboard spacer between the hinge and the cabinet.  Set aside the screws, hinge and spacer.

TIP:  It is easier to remove the hinges/door if the unit is laid flat on its back.

Step 5:  Remove Bottom Hinge

Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the 3 (three) screws that secure the hinge to the bottom of the refrigerator cabinet.  Set hinge and screws aside.

Step 6:  Re-install Lower Hinge

Locate the hinge location on the lower left side of the unit.  Insert the lower hinge pin into the door and align the hinge over the hinge mount locations as shown in the photo below.  Attached the lower hinge using the 3 (three) Phillips head screws removed in the previous step.

NOTE: If the grey leveling leg/foot was previously inserted into one of the holes where the hinge is to be installed, simply unscrew the leveling leg and re-fasten into the hole as noted in the image below.

Step 7:  Re-install Upper Hinge

Locate the hinge location on the top left side of the unit.  Place the spacer over the hinge mount holes.  Insert the upper hinge pin into the door and align the hinge over the hinge mount locations as shown in the photo below.  Attached the lower hinge using the 2 (two) Phillips head screws removed in the previous step.

Step 8:  Re-install Decorative Plugs

Locate the 2 (two) cabinet decorative plugs and 1 (one) door decorative plug and re-insert into appropriate holes.

Step 9:  Re-install Door Handle

Remove the 4 (four) Phillips head screws located on the side of the door where the handle is to be re-installed.  Re-insert the screws and tighten.
