Under normal operating conditions your wine / beverage cooler or kegerator should not need to be manually defrosted, however in certain instances it may be necessary to do so. If your unit is set to a very cold temperature and/or is located in an area that is subject to high levels of humidity there may be the possibility of frost build up. This can occur as warmer humid air enters the inside of the unit faster than the humidity can be removed by the cooling system. If possible, try limiting the number of times the door is open and closed.
If your appliance needs to be manually defrosted, please follow the instructions below:
- Remove all cans, bottles and other contents from the appliance and store accordingly.
- Turn off and unplug the unit from the power supply.
- Open the door and allow the inside of the unit to warm completely. Use a towel(s) to avoid leaks onto your floor or countertop.
- Allow adequate time for all frost to dissipate. This may be up to 48 hours depending on the temperature and humidity level in the room where the unit is located.
- Clean the inside of the unit by using a soft rag and a mixture of lukewarm water and baking soda (2 tablespoons baking soda mixed thoroughly into 1 quart of warm water works well).
- Dry with a soft cloth.
- When internal surfaces have completely dried, plug the unit back in to its power source.
- Allow unit time to properly cool to set temperature.
IMPORTANT: To avoid damaging your appliance, please DO NOT attempt to chip away at any ice buildup that may occur inside your appliance. THIS MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO YOUR APPLIANCE. Certain models, such as the KC2000 series kegerator, have internal cooling component located directly behind the rear inner compartment wall. The process of chipping away at ice buildup can easily damage these components and may result in reduced efficiency or component failure.
