Can I use a drain hose to drain my dehumidifier?

Yes.  Specific instructions for draining your EdgeStar dehumidifier can be found in the user manual that was packaged with your unit.  Certain units can be drained continuously with a drain hose routed to a floor drain, other models include a built in pump to drain the unit. Each of these options is discussed below:

Continuous Drainage Models DEP301/501/701 and DEP400/650/700/740:

Note: This method relies on gravity to allow water to flow to a drain.  There is no built in pump on this unit.

Please refer to the following instructional video and written steps:

  1. Remove the water bucket from the unit.
  2. Attach a 12 mm hose to the connector.
  3. Remove the rubber plug from the drain hose outlet, which is located on the back of the unit, and push the drain hose through.
  4. Securely attach the drain hose to the connector. Lead the other end of the hose to a floor drain or other suitable drainage port.  Hose must allow water to flow downhill.
  5. You must reinstall the water bucket.

** Please note:  This drain method requires that the water can freely flow to a suitable drain by way of gravity, i.e. downhill.

Continuous Drainage Models DEP500/700:

Note: This method relies on gravity to allow water to flow to a drain.  Refer to the instruction at the end of this article for using the built in pump.

You may connect a hose to the continuous drain port located on the middle right of the backside of the unit.  You will need to supply your own drain hose.  You may use a standard garden hose with a ¾” connector fitting.  The drain hose that is included with these models is intended for use with the built in pump option (see below).

  1. Locate the gravity drain hose port found on the back of the unit (located on the middle, right hand side)
  2. Unscrew the drain cover by turning counter clockwise and remove the rubber stopper.
  3. Screw the drain hose onto the threaded portion of the drain outlet and tighten firmly.
  4. Place the other end of the drain hose in a floor drain or other suitable drainage port.

** Please note:  This drain method requires that the water can freely flow to a suitable drain by way of gravity, i.e. downhill.

Built In Pump Models DEP500/700:

  1. Locate the drain hose that was packaged with your dehumidifier.
  2. Insert the nozzle end of the drain hose into the drain pump port located on the lower back of the unit. The nozzle will click into place when attached properly.
  3. Route the other end of the drain hose to a suitable drain. The pump is capable of pumping water up to 16 ft. vertically or horizontally.
