Your EdgeStar mini split air conditioner is controlled almost exclusively by the provided remote control. Please refer to the below information for instructions and information related to the remote control for your EdgeStar mini split air conditioning system.
REMOTE CONTROL OVERVIEW IMAGE
NOTE: WiFi function not available on model MSPLIT12000W
(1) ON/OFF Button
Press this button to turn the unit on or off. The sleep function will be cancelled when the unit is turned off.
(2) FAN Button
Press this button to cycle through the following fan speeds: Auto, Low, Medium-low, Medium, Medium-high, and High. When the unit is powered on it defaults to the Auto fan speed. When the unit is in DRY mode, you can only operate the fan at “Low” speed.
(3) MODE Button
Press this button to cycle through the following mode options: Auto, Cool, Dry, Fan, and Heat. When the unit is powered on it defaults to Auto mode. While the unit is in Auto mode the temperature will not be displayed. When the unit is in heat mode, the initial temperature will be set at 82° F (28° C) until you adjust it. In all other modes, the initial temperature will be set at 77° F (25° C) until you adjust it.
This mode description only applies to heating and cooling units. If you attempt to activate the Heat mode on a cool-only unit, the air conditioner will not take any action.
(4) + / - Button
Use these buttons to increase or decrease the preset temperature. You can set the temperature to anywhere within the range 61° F – 86° F (16° C – 30° C). To change the set temperature more rapidly, continuously press the “+” or “-“ button, hold it for two seconds, and then release. The temperature cannot be adjusted when the unit is in Auto mode.
Note: Any temperature setting change can be made, but will not take effect until the unit is switched to cool or heat mode.
(5) TURBO Button 
The Turbo function sets the unit into an accelerated mode that enables the unit to reach the desired temperature setting in a shorter amount of time. Press the Turbo button when the unit is in Cool or Heat mode to activate the Turbo function, or to stop the Turbo function if it has already been activated. Once the Turbo function has been activated, the display will show the Turbo symbol . This function will automatically be cancelled if the mode or fan speed is changed.
(6) Button
Press this button to set the left to right swing angle of the louvers. Each time you press this button, it advances one step through the cycle of settings shown below.
(7) Button
Press this button to set the up and down swing angle of the louvers. Each time you press this button, it advances one step through the cycle of settings shown below.
Because this remote is universal, the following settings may be available on the remote display but not in the unit’s actual settings. This means that if these remote settings are selected they will have no effect on the swing angle of your unit’s louvers.
If the guide louver is stopped during its up and down swing, it will remain in its current position. The “” symbol indicates that the louvers will swing back and forth between the five positions shown.
(8) CLOCK Button 
Press this button to set up the clock display. The clock symbol will blink for five (5) seconds, which indicates that you are now able to change the clock setting. You can change the set time by pressing the “+” or “-“ buttons. If you continuously press the + or – button, the time will change faster, adding or subtracting a digit from the ten’s place of the minute display every 0.5 seconds. You can press the Clock button or the Confirm button at any point while the clock symbol is blinking to lock in the set time. The clock symbol will then display constantly instead of blinking to indicate that the setting has been received and input.
When the unit is first powered on, it will default to a clock setting of 12:00 and the clock symbol will be displayed. When the clock symbol is continuously displayed, then the time shown is the Clock value. If the clock symbol is not displayed then the time shown is the Timer value.
(9) TIMER ON / TIMER OFF button
Press this button when you wish to set the timer. The “ON” symbol on the display next to the clock digits will blink for five (5) seconds, while the Clock symbol will not be displayed. While the “ON” symbol is blinking, press the “+” or “-“ button to change the timer setting in one (1) minute increments. To change the timer setting more quickly, hold the “+” or “-“ button. For the first 2.5 seconds that you hold the “+” or “-“ button, the numbers in the ones place of the timer readout will quickly change. In the next 2.5 seconds that you hold one of these buttons, the ones place of the minutes will remain constant, while the numbers in the tens place of the minutes will quickly change. While the “ON” symbol next to the timer is blinking, you can press the timer button again to set the Timer On function. Press the timer button again to cancel the Timer On function. Before setting the timer, please adjust the Clock so that it reads the current actual time. Another press of the Timer button will initiate the Timer Off setup, indicated by the “OFF” symbol next to the Timer display. The method of setting the Timer Off function is the same as the method for setting the Timer On function.
(10) TEMP button
Press this button to choose whether your indoor unit will display the indoor set temperature, the indoor ambient temperature, or the outdoor ambient temperature. Each time you press the TEMP button, the unit will advance one step in the following cycle of settings:
When you land on the “” symbol with the remote control, the air conditioner will display the set temperature. When you land on the “
” symbol, the indoor unit will display the indoor ambient temperature (the actual current temperature of the room). When you land on the “
” symbol, the air conditioner will display the outdoor ambient temperature. If you do not select a temperature display setting within three (3) seconds of pressing the TEMP button the first time, the unit will revert back to displaying the set temperature.
Note: When displaying the outdoor ambient temperature, the unit has a display range of 32° F – 99° F (0° C – 32° C). If the outdoor temperature goes above this range the unit will display 99° F (32° C) and if the outdoor temperature drops below this range the unit will display 32° F (0° C).
Tip: When operating buttons on the cover of the unit please make sure the cover is closed completely.

Button
These buttons correspond to Healthy and Scavenging modes, which are not included with this model. Pressing these buttons will have no impact on the unit’s operation.
(12) I FEEL Button 
The I FEEL function uses a temperature sensor located in the remote itself instead of the sensor located in the indoor unit. Press this button once to turn on the I FEEL function, and the I FEEL symbol will be displayed. Once the I FEEL function is activated, the remote control’s temperature sensor will send the current temperature to the main unit every 10 minutes or each time a different function button is pressed. Press the “I FEEL” button again to turn off the I FEEL function.
(13) LIGHT Button
Press this button to turn the remote backlight on or off. You can activate the light whether the unit itself is powered ON or OFF. When the unit is powered on it defaults to the Light On setting.
(14) X-FAN Button 
Press this button to activate the X-FAN button while the unit is in COOL or DRY mode. The LCD will display the X-FAN symbol to indicate that the X-FAN function has been activated. This means that the indoor fan will continue to run for two (2) minutes after the unit is turned off in order to fully dry the indoor unit. When the unit is initially powered on, it defaults to the X-FAN OFF setting. The X-FAN feature is not available in AUTO, FAN, or HEAT mode.
(15) QUIET Button 
Press this button to cycle through the following Quiet setting options: Auto Quiet mode, Quiet mode, and Quiet Off. When the unit is in Auto Quiet mode, the LCD will display the quiet symbol as well as the “Auto” light. When the unit is in Quiet mode, the LCD will display the quiet symbol
only. When the unit is set to QUIET OFF, no quiet symbol
will be displayed. When the unit is initially powered on it defaults to the QUIET OFF setting.
(16) SLEEP Button
Press this button to cycle through the following Sleep mode setting choices: Sleep 1 (), Sleep 2 (
), Sleep 3 (
), and Sleep Cancel. When the unit is initially turned on, it defaults to the Sleep Cancel setting.
Sleep 1
The Sleep 1 setting can be activated in Cool, Dehumidify, or Heat mode. In Cool and Dehumidify mode, the Sleep 1 function will increase the unit’s temperature setting by 1° - 2° F (1° C) one hour after the Sleep 1 function is activated. Two hours after the Sleep 1 function is activated, the set temperature of the unit will increase 3° - 4° F (2° C). The unit will then continue to run at this temperature. When the Sleep 1 function is activated while the unit is in Heat mode, the unit’s set temperature will decrease by 1° - 2° F (1° C) after one hour. Two hours after Sleep 1 is initiated during Heat mode, the unit’s set temperature will decrease by 3° F – 4° F (2° C). The unit will then continue to run at this temperature.
Sleep 2
The Sleep 2 function will change the set temperature throughout the night based on a pre-programmed sleep temperature schedule.
- In Cool Mode
- When the initial set temperature is 61° F – 74° F (16° C – 23° C), the set temperature will increase 1° - 2° F (1° C) every hour after the sleep mode is activated. Once the temperature increases 5° - 6° F (3° C) from the initial set temperature, the new temperature will be maintained. Seven (7) hours after the Sleep 2 function is activated, the set temperature will decrease by 1° - 2° F (1° C). The unit will then continue running at that temperature.
- When the initial set temperature is 75° F – 81° F (24° C – 27° C), the set temperature will increase 1° - 2° F (1° C) every hour after the sleep mode is activated. Once the temperature increases 5° - 6° F (2° C) from the initial set temperature, the new temperature will be maintained. Seven (7) hours after the Sleep 2 function is activated, the set temperature will decrease by 1° - 2° F (1° C). The unit will then continue running at that temperature.
- When the initial set temperature is 82° F – 85° F (28° C – 29° C), the set temperature will increase 1° - 2° F (1° C) every hour after the sleep mode is activated. Once the temperature increases 1° - 2° F (1° C) from the initial set temperature, the new temperature will be maintained. Seven (7) hours after the Sleep 2 function is activated, the set temperature will decrease by 1° - 2° F (1°C). The unit will then continue running at that temperature.
- When the initial set temperature is 86° F (30° C), the set temperature will decrease by 1° - 2° F (1° C) seven (7) hours after the Sleep 2 function is activated. The unit will then continue running at that temperature.
- In Heat Mode
- When the initial set temperature is 61° F (16° C), the unit will continue to run at this temperature all night long under the Sleep 2 function.
- When the initial set temperature is 62° F – 68° F (17° C – 20° C), the set temperature will decrease by 1° - 2° F (1° C) every hour after the sleep mode is activated. Once the temperature decreases 1° - 2° F (1° C) from the initial set temperature, the new temperature will be maintained.
- When the initial set temperature is 69° F – 81° F (21° C – 27° C), the set temperature will decrease by 1° - 2° F (1° C) every hour after the sleep mode is activated. Once the temperature decreases 3° - 4° F (2° C) from the initial set temperature, the new temperature will be maintained.
- When the initial set temperature is 82° F – 86° F (28° C – 30° C), the set temperature will decrease by 1° - 2° F (1° C) every hour after the sleep mode is activated. Once the temperature decreases 5° - 6° F (3° C) from the initial set temperature, the new temperature will be maintained
Sleep 3
The Sleep 3 function allows you to set your own sleep temperature schedule.
- Under Sleep 3 mode, hold the “Turbo” button on the remote to enter the setting phase of Sleep 3 mode. The time setting of the remote’s display will show 1 hour, and the temperature display will blink at 88.
- To set the temperature you want the unit to change to after one (1) hour, use the “+” and “-“ buttons to adjust the temperature, and press the turbo button to confirm when you reach the temperature you desire.
- Once you set the temperature for the first hour of the sleep schedule, the 1 hour timer reading will automatically increase to 2 hours, and the temperature setting will again blink at “88” until you adjust it to the temperature setting you desire the unit to change to 2 hours after Sleep 3 mode begins.
- Repeat these steps until you have 8 hours of temperature settings saved to complete your individual sleep temperature schedule. Once you are done, the remote’s LCD will display the original timer display as well as the initial set temperature.
If you wish to review the temperature schedule you set without making changes, you can hold the “Turbo” button in order to enter the Sleep 3 setting phase to view the temperature schedule. To exit, press the Turbo button again.
Note: When your remote enters the presetting stage for Sleep 3 individual sleep temperature schedule formation, this stage will automatically cancel if you do not press any button for 10 seconds. Similarly, you can also cancel this presetting stage by pressing the “ON/OFF,” “Mode,” “Timer,” or “Sleep” buttons.
Descriptions of Special Functions
X-FAN Function
This function continues to dry accumulated moisture on the evaporator of the indoor unit after the unit is turned off, in order to prevent mold.
- When the X-FAN function is on: After turning the unit off by pressing the ON / OFF button, the indoor fan will continue running for about two (2) minutes at low speed. If you wish to turn the indoor fan off during this period, press the X-Fan button to stop the indoor fan directly.
- When the X-FAN function is off: Once you turn the unit off by pressing the ON / OFF button, the unit will completely stop running immediately.
AUTO RUN
When AUTO RUN mode is selected, the setting temperature will not be displayed on the LCD. The unit will automatically select a suitable, comfortable set temperature and running method based on the ambient temperature.
Auto Turbo Function
When this feature is initiated, the unit will run at a super-high fan speed to cool or heat the area quickly so that the ambient temperature approaches the set temperature as soon as possible.
Keyboard Lock 
Press the “+” and “-“ buttons simultaneously to lock or unlock the remote’s keyboard. If the remote control is locked, the Lock icon will be displayed. Press any button, and the Lock icon
will blink three (3) times.
Swing Up and Down 
- Hold the “Swing Up and Down” button
for more than two (2) seconds, and the louvers will swing up and down until you release the button. Once you release the Swing Up and Down button, the louvers will immediately stop swinging, and stay in the position you stop them in.
- When the unit is in Swing Up and Down mode and the status is switched from OFF to the “
” setting, you can press this button again two (2) seconds later to switch the “
” setting back to OFF immediately. If you press the “Swing Up and Down” button again within two (2) seconds, you can select the up and down swing from the cycle of setting choices described in the “
Button” section above.
Swing Left and Right
- Hold the “Swing Left and Right”
button for more than two (2) seconds, and the louvers will swing left and right until you release the button. Once you release the Swing Left and Right button, the louvers will immediately stop swinging, and stay in the position you stop them in.
- When the unit is in Swing Left and Right mode and the status is switched from OFF to the “
” setting, you can press this button again two (2) seconds later to switch the “
” setting back to OFF immediately. If you press the “Swing Left and Right’” button again within two (2) seconds, you can select the left and right swing from the cycle of setting choices described in the “
Button” section above.
Switching Between Fahrenheit and Celsius
While the unit is powered off, press the “MODE” and “-“ buttons simultaneously to switch between °C and °F.
Energy Saving Function
While the unit is in COOL mode, press the “TEMP” and “CLOCK” buttons simultaneously to initiate the Energy Saving function. The remote’s LCD will display the Energy Saving “SE” symbol. Repeat these steps to quit the Energy Saving function.
Vacation Mode 
When Vacation Mode is activated, the unit will maintain a set temperature of 46° F to prevent freezing in the operating environment. Vacation mode can be activated when the unit is operating in Heat mode. To activate, press the “TEMP” and “CLOCK” buttons simultaneously. The remote’s LCD will display the Vacation Mode symbol and a selected temperature of 46° F (8° C). Repeat these steps to disable the Vacation Mode setting.
Auto Quiet Function
Auto Quiet function lowers the fan speed while maintaining maximum performance. When the Auto Quiet function is selected:
Under Cooling Mode
The indoor fan operates at Medium-high speed. 10 minutes after the Auto Quiet function is selected, or when the ambient temperature reaches 82° F (28° C) or lower, the indoor fan will operate at Medium-low speed or Quiet mode depending on the difference between the indoor ambient temperature and the set temperature.
Under Heating Mode
The indoor fan operates at Medium speed or Quiet mode depending on the difference between the indoor ambient temperature and the set temperature.
Under Dry and Fan Mode
The indoor fan operates in Quiet mode.
Under Auto Mode
The indoor fan adjusts depending on whether the unit is actually running in Cool, Heating, or Fan mode. Although the unit is nominally in Auto mode, it will really be changing between Cool, Heating, and Fan mode automatically to keep the room as comfortable as possible. While this happens, the Auto Quiet function will follow and operate in the various fan speeds described above in tandem with the unit’s current mode.
Sleep Function
The Sleep function cannot be activated while the air conditioner is in Fan or Auto mode. When the unit is in Dehumidify mode, only the Sleep 1 function can be initiated. When any Sleep function is initiated, the Quiet function is automatically activated as well. You can choose different Quiet settings or cancel the Quiet function completely while continuing to use the Sleep function.
Operation Guide
General Operation
- Press the “ON / OFF” button to power the air conditioner on or off.
Note: When the air conditioner is powered on, the guide louver of the main unit will close automatically.
- Press the “MODE” button until your desired running mode is selected.
- Press the “+” or “-“ button to set your desired temperature. (It is unnecessary to set the temperature when the unit is in AUTO mode.)
- Press the “FAN” button until your desired fan speed is selected. Pressing the “FAN” button will advance through the following cycle of fan speeds: Auto Fan, Low, Medium-low, Medium, Medium-high, and High.
- Press the “
” and “
” buttons to select your desired louver swing.
Optional Operation
- Press the “SLEEP” button to set the Sleep mode.
- Press the “TIMER ON” and “TIMER OFF” buttons to schedule your air conditioner to turn on or off at a certain time.
- Press the “LIGHT” button to control whether the unit’s LCD screen illuminates. (This function may not be available for all units.)
- Press the “TURBO” button to activate or deactivate the Turbo function.
Replacing Batteries in the Remote Control
- Press on the battery box cover marked with the “
” symbol as shown in the figure, and then push the cover of the battery box out of the remote in the direction indicated by the arrow.
- Replace the old batteries with two AAA 1.5 V new and dry batteries. Make sure the “+” and “-“ poles line up with their assigned place in the remote control, as indicated.
- Reinstall the cover of the battery box.
Notes:
- During operation, point the remote control signal sender at the receiving window on the indoor unit.
- The distance between the signal sender on the remote and the receiving window on the unit should be no more than 25 feet. There should be no obstacles between the signal sender and the receiving window.
- The signal may encounter interference in rooms that contain a fluorescent lamp or wireless telephone. In order to combat such interference, the remote control should be close to the indoor unit during operation.
- When it is time to replace the batteries in the remote, make sure you replace them with batteries of the same model.
- Remove the batteries if you do not plan to use the remote for a long period of time.
- If the display on the remote is fuzzy or no display is visible, replace the batteries.
Emergency Operation
If the remote control is lost or damaged, please use the auxiliary power button to turn the air conditioner on or off. Open the panel and press the aux. button as shown in the figure below. When you turn the air conditioner on with this method, it will operate in Auto mode.
Warning: Use an insulated object to press the auxiliary power button.
