This article describes the instructions to assemble and install the window kit for your EdgeStar, Koldfront or Avallon portable air conditioner.
PLEASE NOTE: The below are general guidelines only. The window kit that shipped with your model may not exactly match the instructions detailed below. Please refer to the installation manual that corresponds with your model number for specific instructions.
Window Slider Kit Assembly:
- Your window slider kit has been designed to fit most standard vertical and horizontal window applications
- If the window opening is less than the minimum length of the window slider kit, you may trim the slider panel B with a utility knife. (Trim the side farthest from the exhaust port).
- Slide Panel A inside panel B and adjust to the correct width. To secure the panels together, tighten the four (4) self-tapping screws.
- NOTE: Older window kits utilized a press-in 'bolt' to secure the panels together properly.
NOTE: As needed, the panels may be trimmed with a utility knife. To do so, use a straight edge and score the panel in the desired location with a utility knife. Once properly scored, bend the panel at the score mark and the panel will snap cleanly to separate the unwanted section. You may also use a circular saw as needed. Please use all necessary precautions to avoid injury.
Window Slider Kit Installation in a Double Hung Sash Window:
Step 1
- Cut the foam seal to the proper length and attach it to the window sill, and window frame as
shown in the image to the left. Your window kit includes four (4) adhesive backed foam strips for
this step, two that are short and two that are longer.
Note: If desired, you may choose to attach the adhesive foam seal to the window slider kit instead
of the window sill and frame.
Step 2
- Attach the window slider kit to the window sill. Adjust the length of the window slider kit
according to the width of the window. Use the window slider “bolt” to secure the slider to the
correct width. Open the window sash and place the window slider kit on the window sill then
close the window sash securely against the window slider kit.
Note: If needed, you may trim the adjustable window kit if the width of the window is less than
26 1/2”.
Step 3
- Cut the foam seal to an appropriate length and seal the open gap between the top window sash and the outer window sash.
Step 4
- If desired, secure the security bracket to the window frame. When installed properly, the bracket will prevent the window sash from being opened.
